Dylan Moran - as much as I love him - is a standup. He's not a dramatic actor.

He was in Calvary. Unless that's a comment on his abilities, then fair enough.

Being a stand up comedian doesn't necessarily mean you can't do dramatic roles well. Look at the late Robin Williams. The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind were two of Jim Carey's best performances. Bill Murray in Lost in Translation. People forget Jamie Foxx was on In Living Color before he won the Academy Award for Ray or Collateral. You know who else had her beginnings in comedy while still in university? EMMA THOMPSON. You might remember her from a few rather serious films like Howard's End, for which she won an Oscar, Remains of the Day, Sense and Sensibility, etc. And she was right alongside her classmates Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, who've both done serious roles for Wilde and House respectively.

Now, whether Dylan Moran could pull it off is another issue, but being a comedian is not the obstacle to dramatic performances that you seem to imply it is.
