I might sound like a dick for saying this, but if it helps you, I don't see anything wrong with self-diagnosis.

The thing is, though, that without the backing of a doctor, you can't expect anyone to take you "seriously."

But if it helps to have a label then it helps and I say go for it. But it's for you, not for others.

Because self-diagnosis can sometimes be wrong. Dangerously so.

Also, people who self-diagnose are more likely to self medicate.

If it helps…I'm not gonna judge.

Sometimes the alternative to self medicating is people killing themselves. So it's not a black and white issue.

I have an aunt who is bipolar. She self medicated with alcohol and drugs. She's still alive, so I guess it's better than being dead, but since it broke up her marriage and alienated her from her kids, we're talking "better" in the sense that it's "better" to break your leg than it is to break your back.

BEST option is to get a proper medical diagnosis and see what the doctor recommends for treatment.
