It could be the Solid Vision that can hurt people, or it could be that the banned cards interact with the duel disk system in a way that exploits its "simulate battle damage" effect to be much more severe than intended. But since it's never really clarified how exactly the duel disks simulate damage, it's hard to tell. I lean towards the Solid Vision being able to hurt people somehow, because the banned cards' effects are clearly not just like, the duel disk giving the player an electric zap when their life points fall, it affects them like being blasted by a magic spell or something.

I also enjoy figuring out insane handwave-y cartoon science ;)
