No, I meant the exact opposite of flowery - my professors all acted like if a single sentence of your writing could possibly be construed as anything but the sparsest, beigest prose you could possibly crank out, you should kill it was fire, and adjectives were the spawn of satan.

NAYRT - Wow. Weird. I think that's the other extreme tbh.

I did have two literature professors who seemed very anti-discussion, and I always wondered if they were afraid of people digging for symbolism where there wasn't any. That's the closest I can think of.

That sounds really weird. Isn't discussion the whole point of studying literature? Otherwise it's just reading for fun.
