Text: Sometimes I wish I wasn't so amused by certain strains of surreal humour.
(this pic isn’t the funniest thing to me, I just liked the composition)

That whole genre of comedy is great, anon. Your taste is literally perfect.

i like surreal humor...

(Anonymous) 2015-09-04 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But why?

Why wouldn't you want to find as many kinds of humour enjoyable as possible?

Humour is something very close to my heart, so I do like to enjoy as much as I can!

But having those as my favourite kinds is a bit lonely, sometimes, because I like laughing with others, and the senses of humour of the people I tend to be with don't overlap with mine in that area. It's a minor thing, yeah. And I live and let live when it comes to some types of comedy I'm not fond of. Once in a blue moon I just wonder what it would be like to enjoy more comedy in a social way.

I love surreal humor!

Would you have any suggestions on what to watch, OP?

OP

Well, The Armando Iannucci Shows! But I've only watched what's been uploaded on YouTube.

I'm also fond of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and Look Around You.

Looking at these picks is reminding me to hurry up with finding and watching non-British surreal stuff. Twin Peaks has been on my to-watch list for a long time, though it's not comedy from what I understand.

Thank you, OP. ThOP.

I like Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, too!

Have you seen a show called The Middleman? It's a very different kind of humor, but it still has some similar surreal flavors. I think all twelve episodes are available on YouTube. It starts off a bit rocky, but about halfway through it really hits its stride and becomes hilarious.

OP

Haven't seen it, but saw it recced before. Will watch it in the near future!

I'd recommend Due South for a non-English humour pick. It's not technically a comedy but what comedic moments it does have tends to veer toward the surreal rather than the slapstick.

Everything made by everybody from the Ianucci / Morris comedy family - Ianucci, Chris Morris, Stewart Lee, Steve Coogan, etc.

Also League of Gentlemen

Not everyone has the same sense of humour and that's OK.

At a party once the Open Source people had one of those on their door, and every time you walked by, it would jump out and shout OPEN SOURCE IS THE FUTURE! at you.

This is how "Open source is the future of PAIN!" gained currency at the Murkworks, which it retains to this day.

This has very little to do with your secret, but I am not sorry.

PAIN!

No reason to be sorry, that's pretty funny! But I hope for the sake of everyone else that they did take it down afterwards.
