Warning: This one's long

I didn't think of it as trolling at the time, but looking back it totally was. I went to a forum for a popular TV show, and half the members used netspeak. The mods were pretty nonexistent, iirc. Well, I started correcting people ("y-o-u", "t-w-o", etc.), and even had an icon that said "U is not a word." I failed in that everyone there pretty much hated me, and it was only later that I realized how horrible I was being to them.

Looking back, I think two things were going on. #1, I was used to book fandoms and their corresponding forums, which tended to frown on netspeak - you used netspeak if you were trying to be silly or were a twelve year old. So I honestly don't think I considered that the people using netspeak were actually serious, or understood how they could be. #2, college was miserable for a variety of reasons, and well, you know what they say...

I still feel pretty shitty about it, though. I actually kind of hope someone "recognizes" me, because even though it was years ago, I don't like that I probably hurt a lot of people's feelings. :(
