I find these kind of secrets of "oh no JKR is adding things about her characters and series how tacky and awful" to be obnoxious.

I mean i'm not saying people have to like it, but saying it's "self absorbed" or "stupid" or "tacky" is just stupid. I don't think it says anything negative about her, her writing or her character. Why is it embarrassing or wrong that an author doesn't stop thinking about her work because the books are over?

Agreed. This is her job, her livelihood. She'll be invested in it just like anyone else would in any other profession in which they had a great deal of success. If I wrote a series and set of characters that was that beloved and popular, it'd be very hard for me to just want to let all of that go.
