Some of us do, but we're not the ones who go around talking about "anime/manga" because we're not "anime/manga" fans, we're "[that one title]" fans.

A fan of Avengers is not the same as a movie buff.

That makes sense. I guess it's also more likely for someone to suddenly and all at once take a fannish interest in a huge chunk of media they've never been exposed to before, rather than suddenly become obsessed with movies when they've been casually watching movies since they were young children.

Yup. You see it with a lot of non-English fandoms, or ESL people finding English fandoms, or even Americans discovering British shows. "Look at all this I never knew existed! Omggg"
