Shame is useful for dealing with one's moral compass, so I don't think this statement taken broadly is correct. If you mean "shame for what you enjoy", eh, I think as long as it does no harm to others it is usually not controllable, and is fine. Which is why paedophilia creeps me the hell out but as long as it doesn't involve actual children I guess it's okay to me. If a paedophile feels shame to remind them to not involve children or normalise the behaviour to others, then that's a good thing.
