Some people legitimately do. I totally hate this attitude like "everyone who says they don't like pop music is just some hipster trying to be edgy who hates fun and is probably also misogynist."

No. I simply do not like it. It does not sound good to my ears. I don't have to call it a "guilty pleasure," because I experience no pleasure from it at all. The squeakiness and bounciness and repetitiveness is unpleasant.

I do enjoy the sound of extremely loud and distorted electric guitars, though. That actually does make my ears happy. I also completely understand that other people, who are not me, might not experience pleasure from that type of sound. I don't assume they're lying about it when they say so, ffs.

I couldn't stand most pop music when I was young either, it just... left me feeling ennui, like I didn't like music very much. I was SO happy when I discovered there were other radio stations. Most pop music just sounds too... smooth and shiny to me? And that's okay, cos I don't look down on people who do like it, it's totally valid and I wish people wouldn't get so defensive/aggressive at those who don't like it.

Also: people who like metal (assuming that's what ayrt likes from description) must be old... no?

I've actually started liking pop music more as I've been getting older. I hated it as a child, teen, and well into my twenties. Now that I'm pushing forty, I have entire sets of pop songs on my playlist.

Agreed. It's an annoying mindset to pretend that someone who doesn't like pop music is trying to be above everyone else by liking obscure stuff. It's not like there aren't other genres with more than 1 fan.
