What's the strangest rumor you've ever heard about yourself?
Was it based on anything real?
How many people believed it?

It's definitely the one where I supposedly drove someone to suicide or attempted suicide. The basis for it? There doesn't seem to be any -- someone trotted that out but when asked for proof backpedaled and had Case delete the thread.

It's a little infuriating because on the one hand I don't want to be responsible for anyone hurting themselves, and yet I can't exactly take some random anon at her word after she spent a good half hour beforehand telling me I was an awful person who never apologized or showed empathy towards anyone (in spite of evidence to the contrary in that very thread, which she ignored/downplayed) especially when no proof is forthcoming. It's pretty funny how hard some anons are pushing it though.

Ugh that pissed me off so much. It was obvious that the whole stupid "please delete , I've betrayed my friend" thing was just because they were asked for proof they don't have. What bullshit.

A boy across the street told the other neighborhood kids that I'd had sex with him when we were five. The truth was that a few times we did what we as five-year-olds thought was sex, which was really more like wrestling on the bed, fully clothed, not even touching anywhere inappropriate. I don't think anyone believed him, but they acted like they did for about a week just to make fun of us and then forgot the whole thing.

That I was someone's catfish. Before it was called catfishing. I'm not sure why anyone thought it was me, but a few people were spreading the rumor that it was.

For whatever reason several of my cousins believed for a while that I was in a long distance relationship with a guy from China. I have absolutely no idea where they got that from.

IRL someone started a rumour that I told people I was a gang member, when ...I want to say it was when I was just out of high school.

I was just genuinely perplexed about the entire thing and wondered where the fuck that could have come from.

You'd make the least threatening gang member ever. Not even your vegan psychic powers would make you someone to fear.

I know right!? That's why I was so confused. I have absolutely no idea who would even come up with that idea.

Psychic vegan gangs are the roughest gangs, tho.

A habitual liar and serial rapist I know posted a whole long rant on Tumblr with my real name, job, and general location, calling me a gross rapist/sexual abuser/possible child pornographer.

You'd think someone would've stopped Graceebooks by now.

Yeah this is hella raw and I'm being obvious, but fucking divorced from what actually happened, dude.

In sixth grade, there was apparently a rumor going around that I'd had sex with one of my male friends. I have no idea where it came from, given that I was ludicrous levels of prude at the time, and continued to be so until I was about 18. :\

My roommate and suitemates in college made friends in the first week with this girl who didn't like me for some unknown reason and then they proceeded to ostracize me from the whole rest of the dorm my freshman year. They apparently spread all types of rumors about me, one of which was that I never washed and was the source of some terrible smell? Which was stupid because we shared a bathroom and shower so they knew I took daily showers. I found this out straight from my roommate because by the end of the semester they'd discovered the girl that didn't like me was actually a terrible person and a liar and decided to break it off with her. And, it turned out she was actually the one with the stink issue... God, college sucked.

My family are involved in organised crime.

Was it true? Technically, it was my stepfamily, and most of them are legit these days. There are criminals in my real family, but we're not an organised people. Is disorganised crime a thing? Anyway, whoever started the rumour clearly didn't know any details so I'm thinking it was more of a coincidence.

Everyone. Everyone believed it.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that our family car got searched for drugs in the school parking lot. The cops looked through my backpack and gave me a pat down as well. Fucking awesome. Thanks guys.

That I was on a carrot 'diet'.

Yeah, except the truth is that week the only food I could afford to buy was a 5kg pack of carrots on sale.

I heard a rumor about a week into my first year of middle school that I was caught stealing money out of a teacher's desk. It wasn't true, but I had been talking to the on-campus police officer after school one day (I missed my bus and the main office was closed so I had no idea how to call my mom since it was pre-cell phones), so I could understand someone deciding to be a jerk and make that jump to conclusions. I only ever heard about it from one person, and since I was at that school for 6 years, I assume I would have heard it again if it had gotten any traction.

In grade 6, someone wrote notes and signed my name to them, talking about how depressed 'I' was and how much 'I' hated my school, etc. A prefect asked me about them, I flatly denied being stupid enough to write something like that and leave it where others could see it, and that was the end of that.
The weird thing was, I /was/ very depressed at the time... but I have no idea what the point of the notes was.

So, apparently, when I was in school and wasn't doing so well in a few subjects (because I was a lazy little shit), the teachers of my class decided that I was terrible at those subjects because a) I was actually gifted and was bored in class and b) I was distracted by my goth friends and doing general goth stuff or something.

It was pretty hilarious.
(I never was a goth and didn't even know the goth kids at our school.)

when i was in high school the rumor got passed around that i was having sex with this one guy. I wasn't. I didn't even like him.
