Inspired by Secret 1

What are story elements (or fandoms/pairings/whatever) that you love but don't see because they missed the juggernaut-fueled word-of-mouth train.

And then, if you have recs of well-done things in that vein, *gasp* ~*Advertise them*~.

Falling in love

There's a shit-ton of established relationship (of noncanon pairings) and a lot of unrequited love that ends in love (or just fucking), but I find very few "two characters fall in love" stories.

I don't even care about the fandom anymore, I just want to see two people who weren't in love with each other fall in love with each other.

There are a lot of gen fics that never get the recognition they deserve. :(

Even in gen-friendly fandoms it's pretty easy to fall through the cracks, yeah. I'm lucky to have (what I hope is) a decent readership but damn if I don't look at the top hit counts for an equivalent popular pairing shipfic once in a while and take a big drink of water to get the salt out of my system.

Fics that are based in or explore canon and do a good job of it. They can even be AUs that are still very rooted in canon (i.e. a fix-it fic that looks seriously at what would happen if that particular character didn't die, or extrapolating a fictional religion to some kind of romance trope, or how would changing in-canon history really affect the world now, etc.).
