While that's true, the first few lines of the secret do imply that well-written fics never languish in obscurity, which is what people are responding to.

I definitely agree that it's a better use of a writer's time to focus on improving her/his work, but I don't think promotion is always a bad thing, and I think it can make sense in some cases.
