Well, since the exchange rate jumps around between Japan and Canada, I tended to usually estimate that for every Y100 I was spending, I was really spending around a dollar CAD. ...It's a pretty good way to look at things if you're going to be there for a number of months.

For short term, expect to be losing just a little money if you're making all your purchases from Canadian funds.
