Maybe it's because you're less likely to be disappointed by the lack of fic when it's an M/F ship? F/F fic in fandom tends to be very rare, and what's there is usually either creepy porn that was clearly written by straight men or generic/boring fic that is mostly inoffensive, but was clearly written just so that the author could say they did. It's never any fun to get really invested in a ship, F/F or otherwise, only to discover that the entire body of fanworks produced for the ship consists of two PWPs and a soulless drabble.
