I liked the show and the movie, but I was never into the fandom. But, for 2 years in a row, I was part of a panel at a convention that was right before the Browncoats panel and therefore the Firefly fans would slowly filter in as we were winding down. They always seemed curious about what we were doing and tried their best to be non-disruptive (which was not the case from some other fans) and I had some nice conversations with them...

I dunno, maybe you're experiencing the gap between how people are and how people are on the internet? Anyway, our subjective experiences of the fans of this show don't match, but I'm sure you have your reasons for your opinion, OP.
