There's a difference between spamming and advertising though. There's nothing wrong with posting a little something in say, the pairing tag on Tumblr. But when you're posting something every day begging people to read your fic, that gets fucking annoying. Especially when it's a tag that doesn't update very often because the fandom has gotten pretty small.

I have a friend who decided to write a couple of multi-chapter fics, and every single day they post in the tag that a new chapter was up. It got super annoying to the point that I didn't even want to read their fic anymore.
