Maybe because people who dislike Oz for whatever reason don't get regularly told they aren't true fans of the show's genre, and so have no reason to resent the show and exaggerate its flaws.

Just a thought.

Probably more to do with it was 99% men getting raped and the social justice crowd doesn't care about it (or considers male prison rape to be a form of 'social justice' - I shit you not).

If OITNB had as much women getting raped in a prison setting the shit would hit the fan.

I'd say that was oversensitive, but when GoT had a man getting raped, the anti-rape crowd was loudly concerned about the women involved in the scene and totally ignored the man. So you might be on to something.

DA

Nah, I think it's more like what the above anon said. If you say you don't like Game of Thrones because of the rape you get "but muh realism!" or "you just don't get it!" and then get poo poo'ed about your choice in fantasy novels/television that aren't nearly as mature, because, you know, rape and lots of background sex is the apex of maturity.

Oz, you say you don't like the rape and it's like, "too bad you can't stomach it, it's really a good show, you're missing out" and that's that.

The thing is no one really complained about the rape on Oz, is my point. Certainly not the social justice crowd.

Compare this rape to ANY rape on Game of Thrones and tell me which received more backlash.

A few things.
1) Dubbed Oz is weird Oz.
2) I was expecting the spoon scene. I was disappointed.
3) Where's Adibisi's hat?!

Oz came out years ago, though. People weren't as up in arms about these subjects at the time. Also, GOT teeters on the line of using rape for the purpose of titillation.

The Oz finale aired over 12 years ago, which was quite some time before SJ in general took off much less SJW.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-12 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think both things are true

I don't know which team this proves to be correct, but feel free to boo or woo as it pleases you

Or, y'know, Oz finishing 12 years ago and no one really talking about it?
