Things You Want to Confess But Are Too Long for A Secret

[personal profile] skeletal_history 2015-09-12 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
This is mine:

I have lately become obsessed with reading Kingsman fanfics. I've read hundreds of them at this point. And after all this reading, I find a seed growing in my mind, an AU multi-fic series, featuring the bane of fandom's existence, a (dun dun DUNNN) female OC!! I have thought of all the pieces that belong to this series, its overarching plot, various porn AUs, the works. I don't know if anyone else would enjoy it, but I'm having a blast working this series over in my mind and I'm really tempted to put it down in writing except that I'm afraid of spending a lot of time and energy doing something essentially worthless.

Because here's the thing, or rather, two things:

1) I have never written fanfiction, or indeed, any work of creative fiction in my life, other than for assignments in High School (which was almost 20 years ago). So anything I wrote would be crap.

2) I've never seen the movie. Everything I know about the characters and their universe is from fanfiction. So everything I wrote would be crap x 2.

But the urge to write is so strong...

Bonus!Secret: I'm afraid to see the movie, tbh! I'm afraid it will disappoint me, since movies are never as rich and fulfilling as written stories, and I fucking WORSHIP Colin Firth as an actor and don't want to feel second-hand embarrassment for him as I watch him perform as an action hero.

Okay, no, believe me when I say that Colin Firth is a fucking genius action hero, you do not need to fear this.

He is as convincing an action hero as you will ever see.

I'm not just saying this because I love the film, his action scenes are amazingly choreographed and he spent like six months working out and training for this film; he was in incredible shape and did his job well and it shows.

Have faith in Colin! (And I think you should see the film, but in the end that's up to you. Write the fic if you want, it isn't hurting anyone if you do or do not post it, but the film is def worth seeing in my opinion.)

fucking word, if they gave an oscar for "best fight scene" Colin Firth would be winning it this year and every year into the future, because it was that good.

Holy shit this. He was out of this fucking world in Kingsman! I can't imagine anyone topping his fight scene. He will go down in film history as the most badass to ever badass.

If someone does manage to outdo it (and how)...well, it'll be quite the wait, I think.

+1000

Colin worked so hard to prepare (I heard it was more like a year that he put in to be able to perform as many of the stunts himself.)

And he's so, SO good at it.

So like you've said, I'd recommend seeing the movie, but also like you've said, that's at their discretion.

I can't remember where I heard six months...but it was in an interview. I've watched way too many but I could def be wrong. It might be more like 8? No matter what, I remember hearing he did like 95% of his own stunts and that he worked his ass off to be able to pull his main action sequence off. He deserves all the credit in the world, as far as I'm concerned.

And he's so, SO good at it.

Good god, he is. There aren't even words.

Dammit, now I want to watch Kingsman again.

I'm so happy that my bb Colin is getting so much recognition and love around here lately. He's so, so good and deserves every bit of it!

Colin Firth = fierce warrior.

I'm obsessed with people mentioning my favorite fandom and ship and I want to talk about both, but at the same time I'm ashamed of them both so I never mention them unless someone else brings them up. There are a couple of users here who talk about them occasionally and I always check their comments just to see if maybe they're talking about my fandom and ship. Usually they aren't, but every now and then they are, and then I am so happy.

There are also a couple of anons who talk about them too from time to time.

It would be easier if I could just say I want to talk about it, like when we have "talk about your fandom" threads sometimes. But I am so embarrassed that I can't and feel the need to wait for others to bring it up.

What is your fandom and ship?

Okay, you've got me curious. Since you say you're ashamed of it I suspect it might be kind of squicky to some people? You say people talk about them "occasionally", so I'm going to assume that they aren't a popular ship in a juggernaut fandom. (Unless it's a popular fandom that doesn't get much love on f!s.)

I'm in a similar position - that of someone who's read lots of Kingsman fic, but not actually seen the movie. I haven't actually had the desire to write fic for it, but I often write fic for things that I'm only familar with via fandom, so I can sympathise.

Anyway, my suggestion: Write it anyway. I know how much it sucks to write something that you know is bad, but (brace yourself for a cliche) you really won't get better without working at it.
And try and see the movie. Could you rent it from somewhere? I live in a very small city, and the closest rental place only has one copy, so I've not had the chance as yet.

Psst: It actually is a good idea to put your confession in a new comment.

WRITE IT!

I write shitty fics that no one wants to read ALL THE TIME and it's some of my favorite stuff. The more you write, the better you'll get, and you can always get a beta to help out. So, do it! Start writing! Maybe it won't go anywhere. That happens too. I have good ideas that I write thousands of words for and then I get stuck or bored and they sit in my Notes or on my PC until I maybe I decide to finish them up some day. At least you would've gotten something on to the metaphorical page and the urge to write this fic will be satisfied.

I will say the movie is way more two dimensional and flat than its fandom wants to believe it is
