A variety of complex, widely interlocking reasons.

Israel is a basically democratic state. A lot of conservatives look it at and see it as an ally against Islamic extremism, a friendly nation in the midst as enemies. I think a lot of religious conservatives also view its Jewishness and the religious character of the society as a positive thing, and the whole Holy Land thing plays a role in that as well. So there's a lot of ways in which it's seen as a natural ally. Finally, Jewish people, especially older Jewish voters, political activists, and donors, are often outspokenly pro-Israel, and that's an important political group.
