(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 06:21 am (UTC)(link)We're in agreement on this. Especially where Mulder and Scully are concerned. I can go a little bit more domestic with my current OTP, but even then, not overly so. I never wanted my pairings to date in the usual sense, or get married, or have kids. With Mulder and Scully I didn't even want them to move in together (though I love the idea of them on the run together, and after that whole situation calmed down I would have expected them to find someplace to live together - just not like it was in I Want To Believe).
I don't think I've ever read any XF fics
There's some really great stuff, though a huge majority of it is M/S and most of it is quite old now. The XF fandom was actually the first major internet fandom, and was quite a bit bigger than a lot of people probably realize.
Are those authors on AooO or FFnet?
Iolokus is on AO3, as is another dark fic, Tikkun Olam, by the same writing duo. Both fics are listed as being by rivkat. Most of Rivkat's other long fics are also pretty dark and fucked up.
Here's Iolokus: http://archiveofourown.org/series/1545
Here's Tikkun Olam: http://archiveofourown.org/works/39100?view_adult=true
Khyber vs. Season Seven isn't on either AO3 or FF.net, but the more I think about it the more it dawns on me that none of that fic series is the least bit accessible to someone who is new to XF fanfic.
I should probably warn you: you said you liked fucked up and dysfunctional, which is why I thought to rec Iolokus and Tikkun Olam. That said, both of these fics are really fucked up. Everything between Mulder and Scully is consensual, but that's about as much as I can say. Iolokus was probably the most famous fic in the fandom, for a little while, back in 1998, and was considered highly controversial for how dark and fucked up it was.
I should also warn you that Mulder and Scully are, in a manner of speaking, together, and do have a fair bit of sex in Iolokus (and in Tikkun Olam, I believe, though I can't remember that one very clearly and it possibly involves alternate timelines). Iolokus also becomes increasingly domestic towards the end.
I was DEEP into the XF fandom once, but it's been like four years since I was in the fandom at all, so don't trust anything I say; my memory is not that good. :P
