Srsly, if your manga knowledge is June collective catalog, MAYBE that's a logical assumption but sweet jesus most Shonen is so far from androgynous it hurts. And I'd hope someone WRITING a manga would have researched. You know...just a little?

I guess we know what quality to expect from the final product.

Well, rest assured in the knowledge that they will never create a manga, since that's a JAPANESE COMIC and you kind of have to be Japanese to create one! You can create manga inspired comics and graphic novels, sure, but an actual manga? No. So yeah, Suck it secret maker!

Perhaps they work for Marvel under the mentality of "OMG WE GIVE IT BIG EYES IT WILL BE MANGA AND MAKE US BIG BUCKS!"

Their assumption all manga is androgynous might explain why the new manga!Magneto looks like a Clamp reject. *shudder*

Well yeah, but at least that series shows there is actually VARIATION to the human race, that some people are uber-manly, some are uber-feminine, some are in-between, and others are just plain confusing.
I mean, you really can't compare it to something like Revolutionary Girl Utena, which, while I do love it, presents itself as if EVERYONE'S FACES AND BODIES ARE THE SAME. "Boy? Girl? Who cares, let's use the same template for all of 'em!" I think that's the only stuff the OP has come across. The majority of people who recognize anime/manga have not read anything that even begins to go against the shojo aesthetic unless they've seen DBZ, in which case they liken it to wrestling or something and dismiss it. It's pretty sad that the OP is trying to make a manga when they're so damn ignorant of it.

Oh gad, Utena has more animation recycling than SAILOR MOON. That's saying something. I swear, one episode, all they did was use Utena's face/body and paste Juri's hair/outfit over it and it bothered me SO BAD D: I adore the show, but DAMN, character designers, it takes more than hair and outfits to make a character an individual!

Dude, even Clamp...yeah they HAVE girly girly men, but seriously, anyone mistaking Kusanagi for a girl has some serious issues.

It wouldn't take more then a handful of brain cells to see that that's something they choose to do, not something they're forced to do because of style limitations.

Hi. I know.
I'm writing something for TokyoPop (yeaaahhh not Marvel) and I know a lot of writers who write stuff for TokyoPop. I've read a lot of the American "Manga" as a sort of research after pitching my idea. I know they don't all look like that but MOST of them do and that is what the artist keeps sending me and it's pissing me off.

I'm not seeing how one weeaboo Tokyopop mangaka-wannabe artist's work equals "most of manga." Actually, as it's been pointed out, that comic you're writing and the crappy artist is drawing? Is not "manga" at all. It's a comic.

Again, I would suggest you try reading something that's not aimed at four-year-old girls before you make sweeping generalizations.

If you have a shitty artist, GET A NEW ONE. If that's not the style you're wanting to work with, tell the artist. And if they don't have that sort of talent/ability? Tell 'em to go back to art school.

Judging all animu and mango by, more than likely, very little and some weeaboo's unchanging art style is lame.

Btw, as a suggestion for a new artist, there's Upon (http://uponthoufaircat.deviantart.com) (note: not me, unfortunately.) Upon's pretty fab.

Honestly I like a lot of styles I just hate the majority of the artists who make everyone girly (plus I'm pissed that they wont make my main character fat). It's only a pilot and I'm really not in charge of the artist as I'm cowriting with my Dad and he's glossing over all of my want's in the situation because he's so eager to get published. I'm more focused on liking the work I put out there so it's really pissing me off a lot.

Oh hai.
Okay fine. I know they can be masculine. I know. But all this art that I'm getting from my artist is entirely adrogynous. The main character is described as a young version of Santa and the sketch I got back looks like my Mom. No thank you.

I should have specified that it was mostly my artist pissing me off.
