Re: Has your weekend sucked?

I've spent this weekend being terrified that I have seriously hurt someone or will do so one day. Harming an innocent human being is my nightmare.

I'm kind of over it now, but yes, it sucked.

on a related note, as a way of consolation: @all the people who think they're not good enough - as an abuse survivor and a forensic anthropology student, I can tell you that not abusing your fellow people and not committing vile crimes is, in fact, already VERY GOOD. please keep this up&thank you.

Sorry, you came in too upbeat there at the end.

I figured it didn't count because in a roundabout way, it was actually about how much this world sucks :D

I understand that fear, and it's probably the reason I'm not as close to people as I probably could be.

I don't want to just settle for "at least you haven't fucked anyone in the ass" as a measure for how good a person I am or could be though. I realize it's still true, but I guess I just want be worth something too, and do some good.

I, on the contrary, am very close to the few people I'm friends with. In fact, paradoxically, I'm less afraid of hurting my friends than I am of hurting strangers or people whom I dislike/like only a little.

With my friends, I know what they like and what they dislike; what they find painful; I'm attentive to their moods and can always back off when necessary. With other people, though... I fear that I don't pay enough attention, don't care enough to avoid hurting them.

And then I'm also sometimes afraid that I'll turn into some kind of monster, a serial killer or something of the kind. *is still pretty young*

No, I understand not wanting to settle for "at least I'm not a sociopath". I guess what I wanted to say was that most decent people are much better than they realize by the simple virtue of being decent. Not perfect, of course, and perhaps not automatically -awesome-, but still pretty good.

And you're already "worth something" because of that.

Nah, I get what you're saying. I think most people are genuinely good folks just trying to live their lives. I'm just still working through my own crap, is all.

Yeah, I kind of figured as much :/ I'm sorry. Been there.

The thing is, I'm not even sure it's "most"... okay, it's probably "most", yes. It's just that domestic abuse is so awfully common. More common than many other forms of casual bigotry, I think.
