Nope. See studies where identical resumes with identity markers changed, are sent to various companies, then the callback rates compared. Discrimination exists.

I'm not denying that, just pointing that the results of that discrimination is the reason the "most skilled people" are usually from privileged groups, since they have more opportunities and hence, more experience/improved skills.

The evidence is not strong enough on either side to make any definitive statements about this topic, tbh

(Anonymous) 2015-09-12 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Not strong evidence that discrimination exists....okay.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-12 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Not strong enough to tease out the extent to which this specific phenomenon we're talking about is privilege and the extent to which it's discrimination.

I'm not gonna enter into a debate with you here, but suffice to say, if you think prejudice based on race, age, gender etc when people are just as suited for the job, doesn't blatantly exist in employment as well as everywhere else, you're living in a fantasyland.

Are you just not reading my posts? Is that it?

^^^This.

I imagine it's a little harder to do this in the entertainment industry, where you only get callbacks for headshots and a demo reel where identity markers can't be removed. Not to mention your actual previous experience also plays a big part in whether you get a callback or not. And who your agent is. It's not like interviewing for job as an accountant.
