The last book built up the whole "Faceless Man" thing and then it wasn't really apparent how Whispers Underground connected to that main plot-line.

It felt like a detour, basically, or a filler episode. I don't know whether I'll change my mind after reading Broken Homes & Foxglove Summer - maybe some of those elements become more relevant later on.

That's basically my thoughts as well about Peter & Nightingale. I totally understand how it might appeal to some people, but the dynamics feel too mentor-y and familial for shipping.

Ah, I see. That's fair - a filler case is more or less what Whispers is. That's the way Aaronovitch writes, I think, not everything he includes in his series is relevant to the main plot.

But the Faceless Man arc is very much up and about! And I believe we're in for an interesting resolution a couple of books later.
