What is a ship manifesto?

Ship-Manifesto on LJ defines it as: a public declaration of fannish love for a particular pairing or ship

They're basically essays on why you ship a ship and the key moments of a ship.

A pun on "ship's manifest," I assume.

I was going to write a ship manifesto but apparently they are really "old fandom" and the current gen of shippers doesn't really understand them or care about them? At least that's what I got when I was talking about my the idea.

Do it anyway! I love ship manifestos, especially if they're not bashing other ships. There's so much enthusiasm and love in them. And, there's always the possibility that you can convert people to your ship or your fandom.

I think they might come back. Ship-manifesto just had a post suggesting they might start the LJ back up. Even if not, they're still a lot of fun. I say go for it.

Aw no, go for it! I love ship manifestos and am really sad that the comm seems pretty dead. (Or only posts about fandoms I don't know - same difference to me.)

I miss that com, too. I was actually persuaded by a few of the essays! And even the ones I didn't entirely agree with still made for good reading.

Believe me, if you did it someone would be interested. Depending on the ship that may only be a few someones, but it could also be a lot of them; I can't imagine you would be met with absolute silence.

Ship manifesto's are great! I wish they were still a thing; I miss them terribly and would love to see what people could come up with for my recent ships.

Not sure where you would share it (suppose mostly tumblr, though you could always link it here), but it's a good idea.

I really want to make them for my current OTP. And I'm considering creating a community (maybe both on LJ and Tumblr since LJ seams less active now).

I don't have a Tumblr account, but I'd definitely use the LJ one, no matter how active it was.

I miss the activity of the ship-manifesto livejournal and have been back to visit it frequently in the past few months to read essays for pairings in canons I wasn't familiar with earlier.

I always wanted to write one myself, but I never knew which ship and I get lots of ideas I don't complete.

Anyway. I definitely say go for it if it's something you really want to do. You're really talented, so I know it'd be good.

I just went searching and Shipper Manifesto community seems to be dead. This makes me sad. Is it bad form to create a new community? I really miss Shipper Manifestos and have the urge to make some.

I would read and contribute to it if you started a new one :). I just stumbled across the ship_manifesto site some time ago and was enjoying what I'd read there, so yeah, I'm all for more stuff like that.

There was a post there from someone looking to restart it from a month ago. So I responded there offering to help and/or to mirror it on Tumblr. So I'll wait and see what they say and if they aren't doing it anymore then I'll start a new one.

Yeah I thought about starting a shipping community and mirroring it on tumblr but I saw that someone on the old community was talking about starting it up again so I didn't do anything. I didn't want to steal anyone's thunder. If you do decide to do it I'm willing to help, just message me. It's been awhile since I did a fandom thing.

I have a bunch of half finished manifestos on my computer. Part of my problem is doing the fic section because I'm a sporadic fic reader at best. I think yesterday was the first day I had read a fic in months so I struggle with that portion.

I usually enjoy the straightforward manifestos (like, "Here's canon evidence for the ship and why a lot of people enjoy this relationship"), but one unusual manifesto I thought was cute was written as a 'mission report' from a secondary character outlining the actions of the couple being shipped. It was fun for something different.

I just read that manifesto last month in preparation for the movie, and loved it.

In fact, since I've started watching the show, I actually went back and reread it last night.

It's really well written and it was fun to see one presented in that format, given how the majority of manifestos are written.

At one point I read a good few manifestos that were posted, somewhere amongst them I spotted the Cloud/Sephiroth one. I didn't read it then, but came back to it later when early Advent Children pictures caught my interest. C/S became my first OTP in Final Fantasy.

I can't help think it would be really amusing if someone wrote a Male Hawke/Anders manifesto for DA2 in a loose imitation of Anders' Mage Manifesto.

If I made up a manifesto of my own, it would be one relating to my RP ships. The only ship amongst those that has two canon characters is Kíli/Boromir, and it's heavily based on a fanfic.
