Because I need to rant about something.

Okay, the men complaining about the possiblity that California may require condoms in porn because they care more about their wank material than the safety of the women (and men) in porn need to just shut up. I'd really like to punch every single one of them.

There are a lot of different objections to condoms in porn. Is it just that particular objection that makes you angry, or are you pro-condoms for porn in general?

(And why do you put (and men) in quotation marks? You know gay porn is a thing, right? And that MSM who participate in anal sex are actually more likely to be infected than women participating in PIV sex?)

I put it in parentheses because women are the most exploited in porn. I didn't mean that men matter less, but they aren't treated the same way women are.

Mostly I just object to that reason. I read an article that showed that STD rates are higher for those in porn than for prostitutes and talking about California's possible plan to require condoms. Pretty much every single comment was a man specifically complaining that he didn't like to look at condoms in porn.

I think it's interesting that you believe all the men commenting that are straight men. But I can see why you would find that reasoning maddening.

On the one hand, I accept that the men making that argument are almost certainly being total shits about it.

On the other hand, I haven't really looked into the issue, but it seems like there should probably be ways to ensure the safety of performers without mandating condom usage? Like, this doesn't seem like an unsolvable problem - it seems like extremely rigorous mandatory testing + excellent healthcare seems like it should go a very long way in taking care of the problem. I kind of suspect that the problem is scumbag porn companies more than anything else.

Except the current solution is testing. And that what opponents of this are claiming works. Except, as I said, STD rates are higher than for prostitutes who do require condoms. Testing is not taking care of the problem.

I would want to investigate why testing isn't working before trying to settle on a solution - if nothing else, to make sure that whatever issues are screwing with testing don't also affect a condom policy.

That's reasonable. I just don't think that the decisions should be based on how hot the porn is (and why aren't condoms hot). I actually saw a comment by a man who said condoms are bad because they would remind him this is a real woman and he wants porn women to remain fantasy women. And that makes me angry.

Oh, I completely agree with that point. Especially if the argument is some weak-ass shit like that, which is I think actually is just a morally bad argument to make.

So.. the fact that some porn performers agree doesn't carry any weight? I say someone who does a job on a regular basis knows more about the mechanics than anyone else. You may use the argument that people in porn are exploited, and some are, but others are there of their own free will.

Well, that is complete nonsense. You may find it surprising that not everyone shares your values or moral code.

I've seen an awful lot of women complain about this as well. I've spoken to women in porn who don't like it either. The objection seems to be less about Guys wanking and more to do with the gvt enforcing sexual practices on otherwise consenting adults. It seems to be based on the slippery slope idea, Just look at Britain, where gvt interference has resulted in jobs and income being lost. The puritanical lot in gvt will try to shut down porn all at once or peice meal, and this seems to a lot of people to be the latter.

BTW Lesbian who only really likes lesbian porn, so this is so not an issue that affects me, Just presenting the counter argument to the "Guys are assholes" point..

Oh, my objection isn't to people being against regulating condoms in porn. I personally am for it, but I think there are very good arguments against.

My problem is specifically with men who are arguing that it is a bad thing only because it would ruin their want material and the fantasy. That's my problem: dudes who care more about getting off than about the well being of the people they are watching.

As I said in another comment, one guy specifically said he doesn't want condoms in porn because it reminds him that they are real women when he wants to just think of them as fantasy.
