Kim Davis is a registered democrat.

Is she really?

Did not know that. Huh.

DA

My dad works with a guy who occasionally brags that he's registered as Democrat in order to take the party down from the inside, by voting for the Republican candidate. I have no idea if that's Kim Davis's plan, but it's all I can think of when that bit of trivia about her surfaces.

Ahhhhhhh, yeah, that would make a hell of a lot of sense. I'd never really thought about people doing that before, but I'm not surprised someone would try and pull something like that.

I'm fairly certain it's a historical thing, actually. You see the occasional weird mismatch like that stemming from the history of the two parties - there's a fair few places in the South that are deeply conservative but still surprisingly Democratic on a local level, or at least were up until recently.

I believe, although I wouldn't swear, that this is the case with Davis.

when you're talking low level people like county clerks, party consideration isn't really a thing though, a lot of people register as whatever party has an opening or has less competition. it's more than possible that republican values align with hers more, but she chose to run under the D be b/c the R already had a candidate.
