My mom's birthday is today; she's the one whose present got stolen off our porch yesterday. She hasn't got out of bed pretty much all day. I went into work because I didn't want to bum her out by crying all over her but also because my uncle, her brother, came from out of town to see her. And then spent the day in his hotel room. He says he's "respecting her wishes," but also that she's going to die and there's nothing we can do. We can be there for her, you stupid fuck. So angry. And terrified and exhausted. And sad.

WTF? If he took the trouble to travel in from out of town, I'm assuming his heart is in the right place, so maybe he just means there's nothing you can do to prevent her from dying if a liver transplant isn't possible. (IIRC, you said something about a liver transplant?) But yeah, he's sounding like the assholes who disappear when someone becomes really sick and say "she would want us to remember her as she was."
