I don't think it was really cruel. I remember the, "Hey fangirls, LEGOLAS DIES" icons. And seriously, you'd think that after a while, someone would pick up that maybe they aren't being spoiled and it's just a joke. I thought it was quite hilarious actually that people really believed the icons!

But I maintain that anyone who didn't read ROTK should be punished anyway, because it is such a good book and best in the series.
