76. I took it that the ethics surrounding child soldiers in developed countries are in that world very different than our own. Still, yes, yes it is manipulative and morally objectionable. I found it odd that so few FF8 fics touched on the fact that Zell and Selphie would still be in middle school and yet still on the front lines.

Then again, I never understood why I seemed to be the only one in the FF7 who found playing as a band of terrorists unsettling. When Shinra murders hapless citizens to further their own goals, it's a grevious crime, but when AVALANCHE does it, lol whoops?

Except in VII, that actually gets brought up and is in fact a major development point. Reeve is like y'all are stupid motherfuckers; do you really think you're any better than Shinra? How many people did you kill in those explosions?

And everyone hangs their head in shame.

FFVIII is just lol murder.

Sure, Reeve brings it up, and the members of AVALANCHE acknowledge it, but the game still spends most of the plot heaping grievances at the feet of the Shinra. Despite the fact that they also seem to be responsible for the modernization of the world, all technology, all travel, and all medicine. But my point was more that the fans, at least the ones I've known, ignore the fact that the heroes are murderers too.

(Nevermind that prior to mako everyone apparently used coal, and lol lung disease, massive environmental damage, and mining accidents.)

It would be very interesting indeed to try to look for a game explanation for the FFVIII world's positive attitude toward child soldiers, especially those raised as mercenaries for the profit of an international organization, one that preys on orphans of war. But somehow, I doubt there is one.

Haham well I never take FFVII fandom's opinions into consideration because they're all bloody idiots that completely missed the point of the game mostly because their perceptions are so colored by shitty Compilation.

I mean I won't pretend the entire game is presented from the point of view of people who ultimately think they're in the right , but the beauty of having this intentional moral ambiguity is the possibilities it opens up are fantastic.

I know I've never written any VII fic in recent past that didn't have that infused into it somehow. Shit, in my big epicfic it's the entire point/i>.

My problem with VIII is that it's not even addressed D: There's no base point for reference as to how it's received because it's not even talked about. I suppose one could infer that as such there's no point of contention in the world and thus no issue, but then that negates any interest in writing about it.
