Are you kidding me? You think anime is harder than a western cartoon style? How?

No offense to western cartoons, I love 'em to bits. But tiny wrists, simplistic costumes and angles all over doesn't seem as hard to me. I know there are a million and some western styles, but same goes for anime.

Anime's primary purpose is simply conveying events and actions and in still shots showcasing the focus of the art with little emphasis on dynamic.

Western cartoons, however, are about all about style. Exaggeration and diminution are used to express movement. IMO? That's way harder.

And rofl if you think anime is lacking in the tiny wrist and angles department. Last time I checked, a right angle is the primary technique for CHINS (which wtf).

I'm not an artist, so I can't really compare the difficulty levels of the different styles, but I can say this: Every time I've seen an artist (not you btw, I don't even know if you draw) express their disdain for the simple anime/manga style, they've invariably been very, very bad at it.

Sure, the superficial things like big eyes, small mouth and disproportinate bodies that a lot of anime/manga have were all there, just... wrong. If one is going to use a style like that, one has to be very familiar with the rules of anatomy and laws of physics to know when and how to break them and still make things look good.

As I said, I don't know about comparing them, but I do know that drawing in manga/anime style is actually pretty damn hard. Also, there are as many variations in style as in westarn comics, isn't there? I mean, even in what isw loosely considered genres, the styles vary wildly.

Anatomy is what I focused on when drawing was my thing. I started out anime style, actually, then went into a photorealistic style before developing my own.

The latter was far more difficult.

For what it's worth, I'm not saying anime is easy; good drawing with competent skill never is.

As I said, I really wouldn't know how to compare two so incredibly different styles. They're both impossible to me, anyway! But from looking at fanart (and occasionally original art) of anime/in anime style, the problems amateurs have seem to stem mostly from wonky proportions, perspective, and capturing movement in a picture.

Not that I look at a lot of fanart really, but what I do see...

Since anime/manga is more of an... allegory, I suppose, of a human being, I'd say different things are important in that type of art.

(Late answer, sorry!)
