Cabin in the Woods isn't torture porn, though. It's just shitty.

I think they were using it as an example of a film that isn't torture porn that they still can't watch. Like, they can read really graphic, gory fanfiction and not be bothered, but they can't even handle the gore levels in shows/movies (like Cabin in the Woods) that are fairly tame compared to your average splatter film.

Agree with you re: the shittiness, but most people seem convinced it's a work of genius. Must be that Whedon touch.

I feel you, OP. I will NEVER watch a Saw movie, but I've read and enjoyed a House M.D./Saw crossover, plus lots of violent h/c in all of my fandoms.

I used to be the opposite. I could look at gory scenes in movies, but written descriptions of it in stories made me more squeamish, for some reason.

Now, I don't really care either way. As long as it's just fictional, it doesn't bother me.

I hate torture porn and think it is very almost always a stupid plot device and cheap. I can stomach more of it when it's written, but I get really sick watching it. And I'm rather glad I have that reaction, I can't believe how many people are totally desensitized to that sort of thing...

I'm kind of the opposite, weirdly. Written graphic stuff bothers me a bit, but most visuals I can handle.

I feel you, OP. I love torture porn fics too. And while I can handle blood in visual media, I can only handle it up to a certain level. I have to look away at a certain point, and I've never even tried watching torture porn movies (although, I wouldn't anyways because they are exploitative in a way the fics aren't).

I can't handle torture porn in a fic *or* a movie. I just loathe it. Now, watching a real surgery or a well-done war movie is one thing - i have no issues with that. Hell, I could be in the OR if they let me, that would be cool.

But hurting, in really horrific ways, just to hurt someone..... Can't take it.
