Yeah, with the "loved one finds out and things get better!" trope... I have had friends and family find out (see my above mentioned apathy, that developed over time) and it has frankly not effected me. Peers rarely know what to do or say so they usually don't do or say anything (understandably). It can in some ways be relieving just for it not to be a secret, but it is not a fix and won't necessarily make someone have the willpower to stop.

I think showing a gradual or the start of an improvement (if its short) in the characters life/mental health is fine, but yeah, magical fixes are my pet peeve and so frustrating to me.
