Re: Best Straight To DVD or Bombed movies

That I didn't hear. All I heard was that they were too scared of the "Mars" conspiracy theory that mars movies don't sell (which has become a self fulfilling prophecy) and so didn't end up with an advertising camaign that made any sense or gave an idea of what was in the movie to anyone who didn't know about the books.

What I want to know is if that is the case, why did they give it a 250 million budget in the first place. That is an insane budget for even a guaranteed to succeed movie and made it nearly impossible for the movie to make money. And then barely advertise it. It was such a waste of money.

IIRC there was a major boardroom shake-up during the process of making the movie, such that the people who budgeted it were not the same people who had to figure out how to market and distribute it.

Ah. That makes sense. And makes me sad. I really liked the movie, and I would have loved to see sequels. Not that I don't love the MCU movies, but the fact that they decided they were the only movies that mattered pisses me off.
