Thrift store cosplay is great. I didn't have a ton of money when I was 15, but I did make it to the thrift store and bought some clothes for a Lina Inverse costume. Pair it with an old pair of my mom's boots and a k-mart halloween cape and wig, and I ran around the convention and had a blast.

OP, fuck anyone who says you shouldn't do/wear whatever you want. Sing the 'fuck you, fuck you very, very muuuuuuch' song at them.

You rock for the Lina cosplay! That's exactly what I did with my second cosplay ever, too (same character, similar steps)! Looking back, sure there's a lot I'd improve, but it was my step into a bigger, much more fun world, and worth every bit of it! *_*

Every costume you make teaches you something new about what you could have done on the last, and you'll always be growing in skill, OP. I didn't wake up knowing how to sew, I had to work at it and fail at it and learn what worked best for me, and learn from other cosplayers and friends!

High five for the thrift store Linas!
