In that sense I think that Kuroko as a lead (though KnB has Taiga as incredibly major) is actually a very interesting choice - especially with the dichotomy of him starting off as this "super" player, later being discovered as not actually that strong compared to the others, and in the end finally coming into his own.
Though it was also interesting that his whole fight was about the philosophy behind basketball, and not just the games themselves.
