I really liked the Thursday Next books! They were very fun, and surprised me with how far they went with some of the ideas.
I still love the "banana as an engineered fruit in its own biodegradable package" idea.

They're really fun books, even though like you say, a little silly at times. Going to the Fforde Fiesta would probably be tons of fun!
