Cat Person or Dog Person

Which are better?

people who can't appreciate both are pretty lame

Nah. Cats are evil creatures that should not be appreciated.

This.

I agree with this.

...I'm more of a bird person myself. Even though I love cats and dogs.

Cats are infinitely better than dogs.

JK I like both, but I've no interest in a pet dog. Well, unless its personality was... rarely barked, wasn't hyper and didn't slobber all over you, and didn't get mad separation anxiety whenever you go out of eyesight.

As far as people? I'm biased, but people who describe themselves as dog people tend to interest me less than "cat people". But seriously, it's a bias, and ultimately it's really weird that we compare these two animals so intensely.

That depends.

Better as a companion animal?
Better as an independent animal?
Better as a guard?
Better as a vermin hunter?
Better as a retriever?
Better as a portable heat station?
Better as a majestic wild animal?

If you meant the people and not "which are you," how fervent is the cat or dog person about the betterness of cats or dogs?

Dogs are better, but only the bigger ones. The small ones don't taste as good and are too stringy, just like cats really.

Wait, before I over invest in this argument - are we comparing cats to dogs or cat /people/ to dog /people/?

I used to be 100% a dog person. Then I moved in with a cat person. Now I'd say I'm 60/40. Still more dog. My eventual plan is to have 2 dogs and a cat, but the cat will come first because until I have a boyfriend or can afford doggy daycare it seems mean to leave a dog alone in the house all day.

I love cats and dogs. I don't like people who are a "cat person" or "dog person."

I'm a dog person.

I was just thinking about how much I missed my best catfriend though. Then again maybe we got along so well because he thought he was a dog?

None. You don't get to be a better person by virtue of having a preference in common pets.

I generally find cat people to be less obnoxious about it than dog people. I mean, sure, there are the people with cat-patterned-everything, who want to tell you the names and personalities of all of the cats they've ever had, and who will happily shit all over dogs in even quite casual conversation - but, in my /personal/ experience, they are outnumbered ten-to-one by obnoxious dog people.
Obnoxious dog people say that cats are evil, vicious, socio/psychopathic, w/e; and then talk about hurting or killing cats, before quickly covering with the 'just joking' defence.
I find the latter much worse.

As for dogs Vs. cats, I love both of them to the point of toddler-like distraction, so I guess just mark me down as 'animal person'.

I am a cat person, but I only dislike dog people if they start insulting cats.

I don't mind dogs, but I prefer the less enthusiastic mannerisms of cats. I feel people who cannot understand that cats are not as enthusiastic than dogs... just don't get cats.

Also, my Mum is more of a dog person, but she's a dog person who understands cats.

I'm a dog person but dog people are fucking annoying. But cat people are also fucking annoying.

Self-proclaimed dog people tend to be obnoxious and pushy, ime. Cat people usually only say they're cat people when a dog person is being in their face about dogs.

I like both. I'm perhaps a little more used to dogs, because my family had three of them when I was younger, and I know some other people who own them, so I've had more exposure to them in general.

But now my family owns a cat, and she's a total sweetheart and I adore and love her as much as I did the dogs we owned. I think they're both great animals/pets, and good stress-relievers as well :).

Cat people are better. Cats, however, are Satan.
