tbh I used to be one of those fans that was super hard on SH4 when it was new-- the inventory system does still suck, in my opinion, but I was being kind of unnecessarily harsh on the game on the whole. The atmosphere it builds is fucking great, some of the stage design is impeccable (the water prison legit gave me nightmares), and the story's not actually that out of SH's usual league. I tend now to think of it as sort of a Gaiden to the main series, and it's definitely got a place there.

Sorry it's not easily accessible to you, though. An anon upthread suggested emulation, maybe that'd work out for you? Otherwise, maybe check Craigslist to see if someone is maybe hocking one for super-cheap. Good luck! I hope you get to experience it soon.
