As someone who has written Jonathan "gets bathugs and feels better fic," I agree. Dude is irredeemable.

But it's fun to write/read because pretty!

Smallville spoilers (season 3, I think? ... if anyone cares at this point, lol)

Haha, yea, when I see Crane the last thing I think is "Woobie". The idea of him ever being good, misunderstood or having a full redemption arc seems a bit much for me.

However, everything gets written in fanfic land, so if that's what people want to do it's okay.

Lex though...god, I actually did feel sorry for Lex in the first couple of seasons. And it makes me predictable as hell, but boy did I ship him and Clark with the fire of a thousand suns. I think I drifted off and didn't watch again after season 3 or 4, but I loved their dynamic in the early seasons, and I agree, Lex wasn't always a perfect guy, but overall...he was well meaning. (It probably helped that I found Rosenbaum to be quite charming.)

The episode where his father erases his memories just after he had discovered who Clark was upset me. :(

It sounds like our Smallville viewing experience is almost identical, down to finding Rosenbaum quite charming.

I have not actually written any Smallville fic, but man, I wanted so much fix-it fic for Lex's institutionalization arc. Everything about that storyline was so sad for Lex.

Rosenbaum was one of the few actors on that show that I genuinely loved. I didn't hate everyone else, but he was certainly one of the most likable and convincing; he was a solid Lex.

Sameeeeeee. I don't think I ever read any (fix-it fic specifically for that arc...I def read Smallville fic) and now I'm wondering if I just missed it, because it's the perfect premise for so much angst. And you know how fandom likes its angst.

You couldn't get much better canon material to work with.
