Douglas & Kirsten in Istanbul, the Queen of Cities
(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 12:04 am (UTC)(link)The Story
In August of 1995, Douglas Berry was diagnosed with Stage IV-B Hodgkins lymphoma...a battle he won, but which has had lasting effects on his health since then. In August of 2013, he had a stroke, leaving Doug permanently disabled and unable to work; August 2015 brought with it a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis, and yet more life changes. And there have been other medical events, both major and minor, throughout the years as well.
FS, please take a moment to consider this, even if you can't or don't want to spare a few bucks, please at the very least pass it along and get the word out. My friends have been through quite a lot, and they are hoping to visit Istanbul next year, so that Doug can cross it off his bucket list. Their campaign has reached 17% of its goal in just 10 days. Please help boost the signal so we can get them the rest of the way.
Thank you for your time.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 12:59 am (UTC)(link)Don't pretend that "all that was asked for was signal-boosting," then.
It is still monstrously entitled to look to strangers to fund your funtimes.

Bullshit. Of course there is a way to estimate daily expenses. Google "tourist daily expenses istanbul" and you come up with a bunch of travel sites aimed at tourists who need to figure out how much money to budget for the trip.
https://www.lonelyplanet.com/turkey/istanbul/money-costs
http://www.budgetyourtrip.com/budgetreportadv.php?geonameid=&countrysearch=&country_code=TR&categoryid=0&budgettype=2&triptype=0&startdate=&enddate=&travelerno=0
http://gomadnomad.com/2014/03/19/what-it-costs-a-day-of-travel-in-istanbul/
Keep in mind that some of those links include accommodations, so it's even cheaper than their listed estimate. All of them are well below $150/day!
Wow. I thought $12,500 seemed like an awful lot for a week long trip and now I know why. I feel for these people, but if you're going to ask people to pay for your dream trip, do some research first and maybe consider budget friendly options instead of flying business class and staying in fancy hotels. Other people are giving you money, it seems like the least you could do.
