Compelling and powerful about sums up Mads! I can believe he can get that across without words, because even though he spends a lot of time speaking on Hannibal, some of his greatest moments come from his expressions.

(As for Hannigram, I wasn't into Will going fully dark in seasons 1 or 2 either, though I definitely enjoyed the struggle with his demons and found his dynamic with Hannibal intriguing and delicious. He had it in him all along, I think. After S3...yea, I'm finally on board the murder husband train.)

I also thought the pairing would be cracky (I mean, have you seen Ella Enchanted? It's about as far away from Valhalla Rising as it can get!) but the fic is actually very well written and plotty, with some great insights into the mysterious One-Eye. And pairing someone so damaged with someone intrinsically good-hearted is like, insta-kink for me :D

(Oh, I super enjoyed Will's struggle with his dark, Hannibal-y side, but when I read Hannigram I can't help but remember moments like: "You delight; I tolerate." and my suspension of disbelief goes out the window. But every now and then, a fic wins me over, I must admit :)

I believe you! I haven't been reading Hannibal fic for long and there's still plenty of it that isn't for me (God, so many A/B/O AUs, teacher AUs, etc), but I've also found some great fic; there is some serious talent in this fandom. I look forward to it!

(Well...his rejection did serve a purpose though! He wanted their little game to stop, and rejecting Hannibal was the only way it would. Also, er...considering what Will did to Randall and also Chiyoh's prisoner, I personally think Will is lying to himself about the 'tolerate' thing, but I definitely don't think he's evil, just...dark. Very dark, and denying the hell out of it. ~~I swear I'm not trying to convince you, I just love discussing this show.~~)

Oh, it wouldn't take much to convince me, I'm halfway there already :) And I love talking about this show too, don't worry.

Yes, I think I'm just used to Will straddling the line (and occasionally crossing over one way or the other) that I think to me it's become part of his character? If that makes sense. And I know how detrimental Hannibal's influence is on him, and how tempted he is by that part of himself, but I don't think he could kill a true innocent. Serial killers, and scumbags like Mason Verger, yes, but not someone who'd just been rude to Hannibal. But then again, maybe he would gradually lose his compassion for them the more he does it? Lol, see, it makes me very confused :D

I honestly think it could go either way because the longer he's with Hannibal the more he starts to break down, the more these things become acceptable and justifiable to him. I think there's a lot that Will could excuse (And already has, really; as mentioned with the mutilation of the bodies, and the warning Hannibal, and then not going to the police once he found out about what Hannibal and Abigail did... Will let's his personal feelings trump his common sense and morality), and if he truly needed a reason he could make one up.

But I also think it's totally IC for him and Hannibal to make a pact (One that Hannibal isn't fond of, but will abide by) that they'll only kill other criminals and the morally deficient (Which, lol, considering Hannibal), and that Hannibal can't touch his family or Alana and Margot or he'll leave. And I truly think Hannibal wouldn't, if it came down to it; I think having Will as a partner would be more important to him. (And it wouldn't hurt that the longer they were together, the more Hannibal could get inside Will's head and keep chipping away at his defences. One day he might be okay with killing someone who didn't “deserve" it, even if they weren't completely innocent. Hannibal has pushed Will a lot in... What, about five years, counting the time skip? Imagine if he had a decade.)

Well, I've definitely read a few fics that have Hannibal going after only awful people, and okay, I did enjoy them :D And yes, the more time Will spends with Hannibal, the deeper he will sink.

But I still can't help believing in (or hoping for) the good in Will. I mean, he spent a whole three years apart from Hannibal, with the help of Molly's good influence, and did well. And I think the finale seemed very true to Will's character -- he was still straddling that fence, because he killed with Hannibal but also ended him.

Don't get me wrong though, I ship the hell out of it! But weirdly, I ship the doomed aspect of it, too.

That's okay! Even if you didn't ship them, no one has to ship Hannibal and Will and I readily acknowledge how fucked up the ship is (that's why I find it so compelling, tbh); it isn't for everyone.

I guess since we've seen so much of Will's struggle with his darkness, I'm fascinated at seeing how he could embrace it. He's fought it for so long, but in the finale he kills with Hannibal and realizes he enjoys it, and he thinks it's beautiful, and he knows if they survive he'll crave it so he tries to end things between them once and for all.

That is definitely Will making one last ditch effort to make things right, but I also find the idea of a Will who survives giving in to those desires really intriguing. (He did have that conversation with...er, himself in episode 2 about how "You can never really do the wrong thing". If he runs with the 'infinite universe' theory, well, the fact that he somehow isn't dead yet might help persuade him that what he does "doesn't matter". Like, "Well, the universe clearly doesn't want me dead, so I might as well enjoy my continued existence.")

I feel like there's always a doomed aspect to their relationship though. I mean, even if they stay together, even if they happily kill together for years and years without getting caught, the fact that Will has failed to fight off the darkness means Hannibal won. And...I guess you could see it as "This is who he always was, this is who he was meant to be" and maybe that's even true to some extent (as depressing as that is, I wouldn't 100% doubt it), but of course it's a sad ending for Will, even if it's a fascinating one.
