Warren Ellis is kind of punk, but writes about the glory of awesome science fiction technology, and awesome superheroes.

Garth Ennis is a hard man, a working-class man, you understand, who think superheroes are pretentious twats.

Mark Millar is a vegan who sees the world as a murderous horror, and so responds by writing stories that are as offensive to everyone else as our day-to-day existence is to him. He also likes rape.

When you put it that way, how the hell did Ellis come out with No Hero?

It's one of those comics where it seems like it's supposed to be "realistic," but it's really just pointlessly grimdark. Superheroes suck, but the world will destroy itself once they're gone, and if you jump on a man's head like frigging Mario, his ears will pop off in a shower of blood. Also, the main character rips out someone's spine and holds it over his crotch to make it look like a giant dick.

Yeah, Ellis writes a shit-ton of comics and some of them are dumb. Basically, if the message is "everyone sucks", the comic is also going to suck. If the message is "lots of things suck but some people/tech/things are awesome", the comic will be great.
