Which celebrity death

Effect you the most?

In the past? I was an unexpected sobbing wreck when Michael Jackson died, because his music and videos (Thriller, omg Thriller) were so much a part of my childhood, it was like losing my actual childhood... and at the time, I hadn't really listened to his music for years and years.

In the future, I fear the death of Alan Alda. Or Betty White. Oh my god, no. D:

Monty Oum from Roosterteeth. Mostly because that was someone that I felt like I had a more personal contact with. And his death was so sudden.

Robin Williams was probably the first I actually honest-to God cried at. I suppose it didn't help that it was days after the death of my grandmother, (the first time somehow I really KNEW died).

I didn't really know how to cope with it all and when i heard the news I went from tearing up to bawling in moments.

Robin Williams. Also Jonathan Brandis, but that's been a while.

Robin Williams. He was an actor I actually knew about and grew up with. When he left I was old enough to understand the loss.

Hoffman hurt. It still hurts. I never knew he was a heroin addict, so finding it out after his death was basically tantamount to finding out he was depressed. And well, I'm depressed. And as much as I think it's great when famous people who I like talk publicly about struggling wuth the same stuff I do, I'm never HAPPY to find out about it, ya know?

I know he played a lot of Sad Guy roles but that's the thing - I liked him best in his Sweary Brash Funny Guy roles. I also had kind of a crush on him for many years, because of parts like those, and finding out that his actual mental state was more like one of his Sad Guy parts? Oh it hurt

Does Mr. Rogers count? It was a while ago, but I was a mess when I heard he'd died. I loved that guy.

When Ian McKellan or Patrick Stewart go, I'm probably going to just stay in bed for a week.

Terry Pratchett. I've been reading his books since I was very, very young; and they've done a lot to shape who I am as a person. His death was a real blow.

David Rappaport devastated me for a long time. Phil Hartman broke my heart and still does. Princess Diana. Hoffman and Williams just make me terribly sad. Heath Ledger came as such a shock, I thought it was some sort of terrible prank.

There are so many other gifted people who have passed away during my lifetime that I can't list them all. These are the ones that still make me well up with grief and influence my capacity to enjoy their work or bios.

Robin Williams.

He was on TV/in movies my entire life. I always enjoyed his work, even things others panned. It also hit me right in the gut, since I also suffer from chronic mental illness. It's almost like losing a fellow friend in the trenches against that constant darkness, especially since, like me, was one of those "you don't look depressed!" people.

And serves as a reminder as to why I fight every single day.

Aaliyah, still sad about it tbh. Robin Williams was heartbreaking too.

Not really celebrity but I was so cut up about Diana Wynne Jones. No... more... books? Til the end she had a sparkling agile mind and it seems so strange for her to die of old age.

David Attenborough's gonna be a bad one for me. May he crawl through bogs for many years more. I'll light a candle when he eventually passes.

Repeating what everyone else said: Robin Williams. It was shocking, I cried, it was the only celeb death I cried at. I told my roommates and called my mom to tell her, and everyone was really effected. (Didn't help that I was struggling very badly with my own depression at the time so it was like... weird, idk.)

The ones that I think of?

The one that really hit me like a ton of bricks was Princess Di. What an awful way to die.

Also, I was never a great fan of Gianni Versace, but the way he died was shocking.

Paul Walker. He hit his heartthrob stride when I was in high school, and even though I never thought much of his acting skills, he was so gorgeous and seemed like a kind person, I always liked him. I was in the middle of watching the first Furious on TNT or somesuch when the news crawl started. And Vin Diesel was so fucking destroyed, it was insane to watch.

Plus how he died, never really knowing if he had been awake as he started to burn up... and the pictures of his body online afterward... It still fascinates/horrifies me.

Terry Pratchett's death just about broke me. Robin Williams' death affected me a surprising amount, too.

Rik Mayall. It didn't have the worldwide impact that Robin Williams' death had, but it was a personal thing for me having grown up with The Young Ones. :(

Terry Pratchett. I dunno if he counts as a celebrity, but my heart is broken.

Followed closely by Robin Williams.

I basically refuse to think about either of them as being dead, and prefer to remember them through their work.

I already know I'll be a wreck when Bowie dies.

(It'll hit me harder than Nimoy.)
