I'm not very familiar with Eddie Izzard's comedy, but I have to say that the man was incredible and terrifying on Hannibal. He had excellent comedic timing but he also knocked all the serious stuff out of the park. I did not think he would be so good at playing such a dark role, but he's an impressive actor.

I have to agree with this. The scenes he has with Hannibal at the start of season 3 is some of the best verbal sparring I've ever seen. The way he delivered the line: "I've already got up and gone. This is posthumous." was both hilarious and horrifying. I loved him at lot in Hannibal.

That scene where he's fighting to eat the snails and is making as much noise as possible to piss Hannibal off is delightful. Then his burn about Will Graham.

Even though he knows he's going down, he's doing everything he can to irritate Hannibal in the present.

I also loved that whole scene from season 1 where he first meets Hannibal and Will has the seizure. Him kind of going, "Uh, shouldn't you be concerned about that?" brought some much needed humor to that terrible scene.

Everything he did was on the money.

Totally agree with you.

Though I say Stephen Fry is pretty funny, too.

I think he's underrated as an actor, tbh. I've only seen him in cameo roles, but he always does a great job.

Same. I haven't seen him in a ton of roles, but he's been great in everything I've seen.

Before casting was announced, I desperately wanted Izzard to play Haymitch in The Hunger Games. He's massively talented adn would have knocked it out of the park.

Now that I've seen Woody Harrelson in the role it's hard for me to picture anyone else, but knowing how talented Izzard is I wouldn't doubt he could have pulled it off. He has a natural humor that shines even when he's playing a darker part, and there's something very sincere about him no matter how unpleasant.
