I know what you mean. Actually, I'm struggling with this in a fantasy story I'm writing, an original one that I'd like to maybe get published one day. There are plenty of spots where potential sex scenes could happen, and I've written loads of erotic stories before. But putting explicit sex scenes in the middle of my non-erotica story just feels... idk, weird. Right now I'm choosing to fade to black unless there's some kind of dialogue or other action that needs to happen during the scene, but it's weird. I like sex. I think sex is less "bad" than violence, which my story has plenty of. But it just still seems out of place.

I'm not saying all sex scenes don't work in stories that aren't "erotica" genre, not at all. But I am personally kind of picky about what ones I actually like and feel like really help the story, and which ones just seem awkwardly there.
