In EVERY single fanfic? A major purpose of fanfic is to be able to deviate from canon and write multiple contradictory stories and takes on the canon status quo.

If you mean there should be *more* fics of him with a canon girlfriend or Sam, then I'd agree though.

Depending on how pedantic one is, that group of characters could arguably be said to include Tony. They were married in an alternate universe.

(Comic!Tony isn't good enough for comic!Steve, and Eyelashes isn't good enough for RDJ the movie versions don't come across as flirtatious to me so much as pissing in each other's general direction.)

Not the case for this specific set of characters, but I have characters in other fandoms that I ship like that. I just think of it as "black dress character shipping trumped by OTP."

I don't like Tony/Steve - I just don't see it at all in the MCU. Maybe if I read some of the comics that they're close in, I'd see it there & could ship comics!Tony/Steve.
