What is your alternative solution? Therapy?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Not fucking with its genetics so it grows at an unnatural speed would help. Not making it grow up in isolation would also help.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh God! There's a giant dinosaur monster eating people! What do we do?"
"How about we not modify its genetic code?"
"That would have been a great idea a year ago!"
"How about we make it not grow up in isolation?"
"This is great hindsight, but it's not helping in this particular situation!"

And then they both got eaten by the dinosaur.

You asked alternative solution. Thus, my alternative solution would be those two things. They could happen BEFORE all this shit went down. Have you heard of alternative universes? Divergent fiction?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
In your alternative situation, the movie never happens and we all watch 90 minutes of children in a dinosaur park. Which might be interesting as like a documentary-type thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-26 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
as someone who liked the movie as is, i'd also watch the hell of that. some of the ever day park stuff was so fun.

I always felt like that about the minotaur from Theseus and the Minotaur.

"severely abused animal who didn't know any better"

Reminder that she ate her sibling before any of the plot took off. She had aggression problems from the start.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Eating/murdering a sibling is not that unusual in the animal kingdom and doesn't translate in exaggerate aggression issues as they grow.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-26 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hell, some animals even eat their babies and that doesn't translate to aggression issues in any other scenario!

(Anonymous) 2015-09-26 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Sometimes a plane flies over and the animals panic the fuck out in not wanting to die.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-26 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! I like the randomness of this. Make a movie of this immediately.

Uh... I work at a wildlife rescue, and we have to make sure the opossums always have kibble, because if they get too hungry they'll turn into cannibals. Doesn't mean they have aggression issues.

One of the sad differences between JP and JW is that the original intended for us to be at least mildly horrified by the disastrous disrespect towards nature, which several significant and otherwise likable characters were responsible for to some degree, while I just felt like we're supposed to be entertained by it in the new one where the recklessness is used at best to make us root for some of these idiots dying while the just-doing-their-job protagonists clean up after them. If there had been dinosaur casualties in the first movie I would have felt like I was supposed to care at least on some vague principle about intrusive human arrogance.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-27 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Like, I felt sorry for her, but she was still horrible and intelligent enough to plan a way to get out and she didn't even kill just to eat. She killed for sport.

So do many animals, in fairness. Like everyone's favourite sea mammal, dolphins.

Animals work differently. Trying to apply human behavioural sensibilities is an exercise in futility.
