I have a slightly different thing (or maybe not different?) -- I can appreciate that this teenager is the sort of teenager I would have been wildly attracted to when I was younger, even if my appreciation for how the kid looks/acts can't really be described as "attraction" anymore.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP

Yeah, I relate to this, although I wouldn't say my thought process is exactly "oh I would've had a crush on him when I was younger", it's more like "I can totally see why any kid would be attracted to this very good-looking/cool/cute/sweet teenage character, the only reason I'm not attracted to him is because he's just too young for me to feel that way."

Yup yup.

Maybe your brain thinks they've grown up by now?

Yami is hot tho. (I'm 25.)

I have no interest in teens IRL, so I don't really feel bad for thinking this. (He's not the only one, either.)

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's a big difference between finding fictional and real teens hot, just like with any fictional character. You're putting yourself into the shoes of a reader persona who is not identical to yourself, I guess. Doubly so with animated characters.

However, I do find it creepy for an adult to lust after a teenage actor - it's really different.

The problem with a lot of teenage actors is that a LOT (not all, but a lot) of them don't look like teenagers. Whether it's working out for roles for the guys and make up/adult-styled clothes for the girls, it's very easy to look at someone and be, "Damn, they're really attractive.

You can acknowledge that you probably SHOULDN'T find them attractive due to their age, but sometimes it's hard to turn off instinctual attraction.

I just want to express my appreciation for the fact you chose Season 0!Yami Yugi here. He was my adorable murderous baby! With a fantastic voice actress too. Not that I didn't love the Duel Monsters version of him too, but the Season 0 version is so little-known and so unique.

OMG I had such a huge crush on Shawn Hunter back in the day! Haven't seen that show for ages though, so I don't know how I'd react to him now.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's creepy. There's a difference between finding a teenage character very pleasing aesthetically and personality-wise and acknowledging they are the teenage version of sexy, and actively lusting after them and fantasizing about taking advantage of them or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree for animated characters, because it's just the character there. However, with live-action it just makes me feel weird (even if the actor is actually over 18, oddly enough.)

Unf, Rider Strong.

That is all.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the part where I sit back and realize I don't understand "sexiness." I understand aesthetically pleasing, and I understand infatuation, but I don't understand finding celebs and fictional characters sexy.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
IDK, I think it's one if those nebulous reactions that result from the right mixture of aesthetics, infatuation, and the ability to feel a link between a character and your RL preferences.

But Yami was pretty deliberately fanservice-y. Sure, the show was aimed at kids but the fanservice was the type of fanservice that would apply to normal adult people attracted to adults - unlike Robin and Shawn, who were both fanservice-y is a very "well, little girls will dig him" sort of way.

yeah fictional teenagers don't register in the 'actual teenager' section of my brain. no guilt here.
